Last night the defending SBL champion Rockdale A's and runner up Atlanta Crackers were both taken out of the 2010 playoffs earlier than they would have liked. The Berkeley Lake Tides and Douglasville Bulls both move on to the semifinals which will begin Saturday afternoon. Please check the Playoff Schedule to see all updated games times.

Alpharetta, GA – The Douglasville Bulls went on the road for game two of the best of three series against the Atlanta Crackers. The Bulls were hoping their ace would deliver them to the second round of the playoffs. Will Campbell (Georgia State) a Alexander high graduate did not let his team down. The right-hander was making his 3rd straight start against the division rival. Campbell dominated once again against the Crackers.  The Bulls ace threw 6 innings and gave up only one run for the Bulls. “Will has been great all summer and tonight was just more of the same. He never allowed the Cracker to get anything started,” said Coach Pratt. “I just cannot say enough about the kid. His parents have raised a good man. He works, he is great in the dugout, and he can pitch!” Campbell now has a record of 6-1 this summer.

The Bulls offense once again lit up the scoreboard by scoring in five consecutive innings after the first. DH Erick Gaylord (Darton) got the offensive machine started in the second inning as he drove in Christian Glisson (Valdosta St.) in the second inning to give the Bulls a 1-0 lead. Michael Willis (Chapel Hill grad.) homered in the third to give the Bulls a 2-0 lead after three innings. Evan Boyd’s double in the fourth drove in two runs and the Bulls started to pull away after fourth inning with a 4-0 lead. The Bulls offense continued to put pressure on the Cracker starter Steven Taylor and the right-hander was shell-shocked after the two run blast off the bat of Brian York (Truett McConnell). York’s long home run deflated the Crackers and the Bulls took a 7-0 lead after 5 innings. The Bulls scored two more in the 6th inning and took a commanding 9-1 lead into the 7th inning. “The offense has been very active the past two games. It seems the boys are seeing the ball real well. I just hope it carries into the next round,” said Coach Pratt. “The two bombs that York hit definitely hurt the morale of the other ballclub. Those were two very long homers,” said Coach Pratt.

Brian York was voted the MVP of the first round of the payoffs. York batted .444 with 2 HR’s and 5 RBI’s

The Bulls will play the regular season champion Atlanta Astros starting on Saturday night at 7:15 at Norcross High School. The Bulls return for their final home game of the playoffs on Monday, August 2nd for game 2 of the best of three series. The Bulls have a 2-1 record versus the Astros this summer. Monday’s night game will start @ 7:15pm.
